It was exactly quarter past 9 in the evening, “Maureen”, a lady in her mid 30’s had just arrived home after having a hectic day at work and this day was no exception from the previous day.
It all started six months ago when she was promoted from Human Resource Manager to her regional branch manager at Walt Disney limited. Her dedication and commitment to her job was second to none and were glaring to all as she was greatly admired by fellow colleagues. They couldn’t stop talking about her and how she truly had what takes to hold that position. For the record, Maureen had previously won several awards and the most recent one was “United Nations leadership Merit Award”
Did I forget to mention that she is a mother of three? She mothered two boys Charles and Obed and an adorable daughter Emily. Stanley, the father of her children and husband of her youth hasn’t stopped singing her praise ever since they tied the nuptial knot for she was a perfect description of a virtuous woman {Proverbs 31:28}.
The last 10 years of Stanley’s life has been the best years of his life. How could he not love a woman who makes him a priority and always puts him first as a king that he is? She indeed understood the priesthood dimension of motherhood, a day without spending quality time with her maker and family didn’t feel fulfilling.
One would say that she was doing much with little or no time, but she undoubtedly knew her place as a woman. She knew that she was made for more. Favor is deceitful, beauty is vain, but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. {Proverbs 31:30}
Maureen’s life portrays that of a virtuous woman; who is careful not to teardown or destroy, firm in decision and her words are discrete, wise and obliging, governed by the rules of wisdom. Building not just her home, but also a multi-national leadership icon.
Sadly, there are not many women like Maureen in this dispensation. Studies have shown that women account for approximately 49% of the Nigerian population and nearly 1 out of 4 women in Sub-Saharan Africa is a Nigerian. Ironically, Nigeria has the least number of female Parliamentarian and ranks 133rd in the world for female political representation. Sad indeed!
For the females (and males also), let Proverbs 31:10-31 be your guide all through.
In Charles L. Allen’s words, “It is the little things we do and the minor words we say that make or break the beauty of the average passing day”.
